I am back in Sonoma for the first time since June. Besides getting ready for another New Years celebration, I have been revisiting some of the pieces I first attempted during my longer sojourn here.
This piece is actually from last Spring, and was included in my show at Art Gotham.
In revisiting unfinished work, I have been reminded of how consistently my initial feelings about a piece fail to predict my ultimate conclusion about its success or failure.
This piece is part of a four part series, I am now proud of it.
I have been working for the last four weeks at a wonderful art colony called the Saltonstall Foundation in upstate New York.
I don’t know what to say.
I feel like I’ve learned a lot about my process and the need to be more patient. There are no distractions here. Internet is scarce, my phone doesn’t work, there’s only four other people up here, and pretty much all meals are taken care of. This space is designed for the creative endeavor.
So for the last month I’ve been sitting with my creative self. Trying to move the vision forward, evolve it, work out the kinks and achieve flow. This amazing, beautiful, and somewhat un-real circumstance has completely kicked my ass.
I’m tired and worn-out, and my understanding has grown
